Students are proficient in the theory and application of skills essential for knowledge representation in evolving technology environments, in any chosen are of specialization.

III.a. Students analyze, organize, and describe various formats of information objects.

  • LIS 5268 Microcomputer Applications for Libraries and Information Centers

    • Digital Preservation of Information - The importance of preserving information cannot be underscored. In this paper I describe the importance of preservation of information digitally including the history of preservation, preservation strategies and standards, emerging technologies and tools, and digital preservation challenges.

III. b. Students identify and apply best practices in the use of different technologies for knowledge representation

  • LIS 5120 Cultural Heritage

    • Libraries, Museums, and Archives in the Digital Age: Importance of Information Professional Education - This synthesis paper outlines the importance of education for information professionals within libraries, museums, and archives to work together to preserve and allow access to materials. Patrons want information, text, pictures, etc., easily accessible. Libraries, Museums, and Archives working together, understanding each other's basic processes, can help bridge a gap between the institutions to provide the information sought by patrons in the digital age.

  • LIS 5526 Information Literacy

    • Autism Spectrum Disorders: Information for Caregivers Lesson Plan -  Parents and caregivers are often unaware of signs of autism, screening and diagnosis, treatments, therapies, resources, and support available to them to care for their children. As a parent of a child with Autism, I felt is was important to provide a resource of education for parents to understand how to navigate this difficult course. This lesson plan I developed, for a public library, will introduce participants to autism spectrum disorders (ASD) including signs, screening and diagnosis, treatments and therapies, and resources.
